It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janet van Zyl (nee Breedyk) after a courageous 8 month battle with brain cancer. Beloved wife of almost 53 years to Peter, loving mother to David (Alison), Jeff (Aldo) and Sandra (Brian). Dear sister of Nick (Betty), Martin (Nee) and Gordon (Evelyn). Loving Oma to Mark (Britney), Johnathon (Heather) and Erin (Curtis). On February 24th, Janet became a proud great grandmother (Super Oma) to Blake Erin. Janet, always fiercely loyal to her loved ones, will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends here in Canada and her many relatives and friends in Holland. Friends and family may pay their respects at the Kelly Funeral Home – Barrhaven Chapel, 3000 Woodroffe Ave,(613) 823-4747,Friday March 4 from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service to be held at Manotick United Church, 5567 Main St, Manotick, Saturday March 5 at 2 pm, reception immediately following at the Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Janet’s name to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation or the Janet van Zyl Memorial Scholarship through the Kiwanis Music Festival, for which she was a tireless volunteer.
